Kelly Wisness: Hi, this is Kelly Wisness. Welcome back to the award-winning Hospital Finance Podcast. We’re pleased to welcome back Christina Brown, BESLER’s Vice President of Reimbursement Services. In this episode, Christina will provide us with a glimpse into BESLER’s next The Hospital Finance Academy Webinar, Deep Dive on Processing the Cost Report, that we’re hosting live on Wednesday, November 12th at 1 PM Eastern Time. Welcome back and thank you for joining us, Christina.
Christina Brown: Thanks, Kelly. It’s always a pleasure.
Kelly: It’s always a pleasure to have you here. So, let’s go ahead and jump in. So how will this be different from the other cost report webinars that you’ve done recently?
Christina: Sure. So, in our previous Academy webinars this year, we touched a bit on the basics and gave an overview of the worksheets, as well as other items related to cost reporting, like just some of the basic regulatory type things. This one, we’re going to go a bit more detailed into what is covered for each worksheet. And we’ve also had other cost support one-on-one webinars in the past, but this one is going to be different because, again, we’re going to go more into the detail than what has previously been covered on other webinars. So, as the webinar suggests, it’s really a deep dive into the processing of the cost report.
Kelly: I think it’s going to be a great one. So can you tell us a little bit about what you’re going to be covering in this Academy session?
Christina: Sure thing. So, we’ll pick up where we left off last time, and I’ll give a brief review of the worksheets prior to taking a deeper dive into the components of each worksheet, as well as providing some additional information as to the inner working relationships of each of the worksheets and why the flow is important to each one of those. You will also come away with some additional reference material that is going to be applicable to what is being covered on this webinar.
Kelly: Awesome. We love having those resources. So, you talked in your last Academy session about other cost report types and forms. Are you going to be focusing on any particular provider type?
Christina: Yes, so that’s actually a great question. So, in this webinar, I’m going to be focused on the 2552-10 Hospital Cost Report, as it is the one that contains the most information. So, in my opinion, if you understand how the Hospital Cost Report works, then the others become much easier to understand. It’s really no secret that CMS uses the 2552-10 as a sort of a standard format for the other form types. For example, if you look at the SNF 2540-10, you’ll notice how similar it is to the 2552-10. It’s just less involved. Similarly, if you look at the subprovider worksheet series within the 2552-10, you’ll notice the information flow is similar to what is on the standalone form sets for those particular provider types. Recently, CMS redesigned the Home Office Cost Report from the 287-05 to more closely match the worksheet lettering convention to that of the 2552-10 when they came out with the 287-22. So, all that just to say that, yes, I’m going to be focusing on the 2552-10 just because that is going to give you the biggest bang for your buck as we dive deep into processing the cost report.
Kelly: Sounds great. Looking forward to that. So will you be giving some detailed examples of work papers?
Christina: Sure, yes. So, the short answer to that question is yes. So, over the years, I have seen a variety of work papers to accomplish entry into the cost report. So, I’m going to be going over a few examples and the purpose of those. Naturally, these examples will likely be within the BESLER OMNIA platform, but even if you aren’t a user of the software, these examples are derived really from an Excel file. So, you should be able to follow along pretty easily, even if I’m in our BESLER OMNIA platform.
Kelly: That’ll be cool to show that off a little bit. So do you plan to include some tips and best practices because you know we love those?
Christina: Of course, yes. And as you mentioned, we love a good best practices segment. So, this one will be no different. I’ll talk throughout the webinar about some tips and tricks as well as some best practices for processing the cost report. And then we’ll likely end with some key takeaways. And as I mentioned earlier, we’ll also be providing some good tangible resources for our attendees.
Kelly: Sounds great. Well, thank you so much for joining us, Christina, and for giving us this sneak peek into BESLER’s upcoming Academy Webinar, Deep Dive on Processing the Cost Report, that we’re presenting live on Wednesday, November 12th, at 1 PM Eastern Time.
