  • Actively contribute to work projects in the areas of:

    • Cost Report Workpaper Build Outs in BESLER’s software product
    • DSH

    • Various State Report Preparation
    • Organ Acquisition
    • Wage Index
    • BESLER Reimbursement Software implementation and support
  • Conduct client engagements, per the engagement methodology, and within the designated time period.  Inform Project Lead, Manager, or Director of any potential delays that would impact the ability to complete assigned tasks within the allotted time. Must actively define need or problem, conduct research and analysis of data, in order to recommend solutions for clients.  Conclusions should be objective, logical and based on facts that have been collected and verified.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships that continue to produce revenues for the firm over time.  Facilitate open lines of communication with active clients and keep project lead abreast of new issues as they develop.
  • Assist in the development of specific recommendations and conclusions for the client. Conclusions should be objective, logical, and based on facts that have been collated and verified.
  • Identify, analyze and effectively address and resolve data challenges that impact operations or financial processes with the client, regardless of whether the problem originates in an area under direct or indirect control.
  • Maintain compliance standards for providing accurate information on all product line work, proposals, and client activity.
  • Maintain appropriate internal control safeguards over client records and collection of BESLER information.
  • Maintain accurate and current activity reporting. Enter hours and expenses where applicable by project as soon as possible.  Enter clear and concise description of activities in time keeping system as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development of Public facing Marketing Materials, as well as product specific Client targeting strategies and data.
  • Exhibit the critical problem-solving skills needed to include:
    • The ability to break down a significant problem into its root causes and then design solutions to address each of the root causes.
    • Ability to analyze complex provider issues and identify the appropriate regulatory impact.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure that deadlines are met and product quality is maintained.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the BESLER Core Values (Teamwork, Excellence Accountability, and Integrity) are inherent in all aspects of daily operation
  • Continuing Compliance Education Plan – Complete all on-line modules within the prescribed timeframe.
  • Carries out other assignments or special projects, as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated abilities and experience in the following areas:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business, finance, health or public administration, management, or a related field.

  • An individual is required to have excellent written skills as well as clear and effective communication skills. The individual may be required to utilize these skills to facilitate or assist in presentations on behalf of the Reimbursement Team.
  • Working knowledge in the areas of hospital/healthcare settings such as cost reporting, IME/GME, uncompensated care, wage index reviews, DSH, and other areas as assigned to include health insurance practices, industry regulatory requirements and technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solving or detective style thinking in order to interface with BESLER staff, as well as with the client, in order to effectively detect areas with potential problems and ability to recommend solutions.
  • A minimum of 1-3 year’s healthcare or related business experience required along with strong organizational and technical skills.
  • Skills in using related software is essential for effective and efficient performance.
  • Knowledge of medical and general industry terminology.
  • Project Management Skills, ability to monitor and report on client engagement activities throughout the lifecycle of the engagement.

  • Act in the role of Consultant for the product line activities, embodying the Core Values of the firm with equal responsibility and accountability to product line staff.

We are currently seeking an Inpatient DRG Validation & Coding Analyst. This position has the ability to work remote.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizing BESLER’s revenue integrity platform, review claims at all levels of complexity for inpatient claims.
  • Ability to read, decipher and analyze all aspects of medical record documentation for accurate coding.
  • Responsible for reviewing inpatient coding (ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes) to ensure accuracy and completeness of records coded by the coding staff for multiple clients.
  • Validate the ICD-10-CM and PCS codes, principal and secondary diagnoses.
  • Assignment appropriateness to ensure consistency and efficiency and to optimize DRG reimbursement and facilitate data quality in hospital inpatient services.
  • Review physician documentation for specificity, completeness, and quality to support coding accuracy, and to identify physician query opportunities to improve the documentation.
  • Maintains current knowledge of regulatory agencies standards, i.e., CMS, OIG, AHA, Coding Clinics, etc.
  • Maintain required coding credential(s).
  • Seeks opportunities for individual growth and development, including attending various meetings, conferences, and courses, as required.
  • Responsible for meeting departmental productivity and quality expectations.
  • Consult with client organizations and their department heads at the direction of the service line director.
  • Collaborate with other service line team members to meet client demands and to develop strategies for service line growth and operational improvement.
  • Communicate consistently with all project team members and general BESLER colleagues regarding the status and results of service line business operations.
  • Contribute to developing coding education and training and institutional coding policies to achieve coding excellence and to enhance internal, proprietary software used as an analytical tool.
  • Carry out all other ad hoc requests as determined by business needs.
  • Travel to client sites may be required.
  • This position performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Demonstrated abilities and experience in the following areas:

  • A minimum, 5+ years’ experience with Coding IP Claims.
  • Experience with Medicare and Medicaid DRGs.
  • Experience with DRG validation.
  • Experience with OP coding a plus.
  • Strong coding knowledge and follow the official coding rules, guidelines, and conventions to validate coded data and ensure high quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates competency in the use of computer applications in the EHR (i.e., Cerner, EPIC, Meditech, etc.) and knowledge in DRG grouping software.
  • Computer proficiency as related to MS Office and in-house proprietary software.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in hospital/healthcare settings such as revenue cycle, coding, and reimbursement.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS required.
  • ICD-10-CM/PCS AHIMA Approved Trainer experience highly desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with high-level of management.
  • Detailed-oriented and able to meet targeted deadlines.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related field, Associates in Health Information Technology minimally acceptable
  • RHIA or RHIT a plus, CCS credential required.
