The Medicare Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRR) was effective for discharges beginning on October 1, 2012 and reduces payments to IPPS hospitals with excess readmissions.
The Affordable Care Act put in motion a number of efforts to reduce hospital Medicare reimbursement when quality standards are not met. One of these changes is the Medicare Hospital Readmissions Reduction program which can reduce your overall Medicare base payments by up to 3% in FY2015 as a penalty for excess readmissions.
